Hanauma Bay, on the East End of our island, is part of the Hanauma Bay Nature Preserve Park and is both a Nature Preserve and a Marine Life Conservation District. These provisions help the Hawaiian government protect the natural wildlife and natural area. Even though Hanauma Bay and the surrounding nature preserve are popular, the Hawaiian government has taken measures to limit accessibility, e.g., they are closed all day Tuesdays to give the fish and coral a rest ;-) Also, be SURE to get there very early in the morning as it fills up fast with guests and they often close the parking lot entrance during the day for hours at a time.
